Woolly Mammoth Tooth from the North Sea
Additional Information
  • Showcased here is a treasure worthy of being placed among all your definitive collectibles!

Presented here is an ancient artifact of the Ice Age rediscovered and captured in 2016 by happenstance due to commercial fishermen in the North Sea, a tooth portion from a Woolly MammothAct quickly! As this opportunity to possess a golden piece of Earth's history is rarely available.

The Woolly Mammoth's were the world's most prolific herbivores of the Pleistocene Epoch era with their easily recognizable gigantic frame, thick brown coat, and distinctive curling tusks. At 12 feet (4 meters) tall, weighed around 6 tons (heavier than a piano!), and hair strands reaching up to 3 feet (1 m) long, this extinct species roamed the Arctic plains defending themselves with their fur-lined, towering bodies against hypothermic weather conditions and using their massive tusks to shovel for vegetation as nourishment. Aside from utilizing their tusks as a digging tool, it was also a survival method against any Prehistoric predators, such as the earliest recorded poacher the Neanderthal (early man).

The Woolly Mammoth is amongst the most bizarre and rare archeological discoveries of any fossilized creature of the Prehistoric Age. A Woolly Mammoth had six sets of molars throughout their lifetime and which were replaced five times. The Woolly Mammoth's had four functional molar teeth at a time, two in the upper jaw and two in the lower. About 23 cm (9.1 in) of the crown was within the jaw, and 2.5 cm (1 in) was above. The teeth had up to twenty-six separated ridges of enamel, which were themselves covered in "prisms" that were directed towards the chewing surface. These were quite worn resistant and kept together by cementum and dentine. The first molars were about the size of those of a human, 1.3 cm (0.51 in), the third was 15 cm (6 in) 15 cm (5.9 in) long, and the sixth were about 30 cm (1 ft) long and weighed 1.8 kg (4 lb). The surface of the tooth was ideally suited to grind up hard-to-digest foods such as rugged shrubbery and various dense vegetation. Turned on their profile, the tooth resembles an extended accordion and identify as a row of vertically oriented attached plates. The biomechanics of its crown structure was continually pushed forwards and up as it wore down, comparable to a conveyor belt, to create space for an unworn set. The molars increased in size and contained extra ridges with each replacement. Distortion in the molars is a frequent health issue found in Woolly Mammoth fossils and can interfere with the replacement process and force them into abnormal positions.
