Mosasaur Fossilized Jaw Bones with Teeth
Showcased here is a treasure worthy of being placed among all your definitive collectibles!
An ancient, aquatic creature of the late Cretaceous period almost inhabited continents from North and South America to Europe, Asia, and Australia. Act quickly! As this opportunity to possess a golden piece of Earth's history is rarely available.
Mosasaurs are considered the Great Marine Reptiles of the late Cretaceous! It was an aquatic reptile, not a fish, as evidenced by its two sets of fins, relating to Lepidosaurs with overlapping scales. Early paleontologists initially suspected that the Mosasaur was an ancient crocodile or monitor, but eventually, it became clear that it was a different species altogether, unrelated to any modern animal. The first fossil remains were discovered at the Meuse River about 1780. The largest species of the Mosasaur species could grow to over 50 feet long, with a streamlined skull bristling with teeth, a barrel-like trunk for its midsection, and a lengthy whipping tail. These ferocious marine predators are considered by some experts to be closely related to snakes, due to extreme similarities in jaw and skull anatomies. Mosasaurs had a double-hinged jaw and flexible skull (much like that of a snake), which enabled them to gulp down their prey almost whole.
Native Americans in the Midwest U.S. had found Mosasaur fossils long before the first described specimens came to the public eye. They drew images of them, believed the fossils had special powers and were the remains of the mythological beings Wakinyan (Thunder beings) and Unktehila (Water monsters).
