It seems like every month we get postcards in the mail about estate auctions that are taking place at a hotel or some other rented location. While we can’t claim that every single one of these operations is dishonest, the fact that they are here today and gone tomorrow offers the consumer very little protection should their be a problem after the auction.
What happens if you bid on something that was represented as working, but when you took it home, it was not only not working, but incomplete? The answer is nothing if you have no phone number or business office to report the problem to.
We recommend avoiding auctions that do not have permanent locations, unless you are familiar with the company conducting the auction. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
